While doing some research I discovered this delightfully straightforward COPPA homepage. Reminiscent of the similarly clear Hay Net homepage, these kinds of pages make me feel a lot better about my taxes.

I’m gonna respectfully disagree with this post.
Yes, the homepage you link to is perfectly clear and elegant and anyone (dare I say, even a child?) could understand it.
But when you click either link you land on lengthy all-text pages full of glaze-inducing legalese. Heck, the first links to the original bill as passed by Congress. I don’t think anyone would describe the language of federal legislation as “simple”.
If they really wanted to help people understand and comply with COPPA they would have looked for ways to make that information more scannable and digestible. A checklist maybe. Or a list of examples.
Ok, carry on.
Sigh. I only meant the homepage. Can’t we just take a moment to enjoy what’s right about this site?
Looks like a great opportunity for a usability consultant…
